GCJ News & Invite
October 2005

Lots going on as we count down to our departure for Nigeria!

Library construction in Oporoza is proceeding well. The Nigerian delegation is shaping up, and currently includes a journalist/former CNN reporter who specializes in the Delta, an environmental scientist, a regional planner and the Prince of Badagry (Yoruban tribe). And we recently received the exciting news that the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria has accepted our invitation to attend the library commissioning ceremony.

If you're new to GCJ, you can catch up on past newsletters on our web site home page.

If you're in the Seattle area, please join us for our final get-together before we depart for Nigeria. Come meet our delegates, families and friends and share in the send-off festivities.

    • Thursday, November 10th, 2005
    • 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
    • African music, refreshments and a short presentation about GCJ and our project in the Niger Delta

The event coincides with the 10th anniversary of the death of internationally renowned Niger Delta writer, environmental leader and human rights activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and is dedicated to his memory. He was executed in 1995 by the then-military regime in Nigeria.
